You can turn your goals into reality!
Neuroscience has shown us that our expectations directly influence our performance. What are your expectations and goals for the coming year? The way you set your goals plays a powerful role in your success. When goals are structured correctly, both adults and children achieve higher success rates because they learn to become more creative, resourceful, and solution-oriented in reaching what they want.
A 2015 study by psychologist Gail Matthews revealed that people who write down their goals are **33% more successful** in achieving them than those who only keep them in their mind.
Below are the steps to help you turn the upcoming year into your best one yet.
1. Write your goals so they are:
- Specific
- Measurable
- Realistic within the time you set
- Time-bound
Example:
“I go to the gym three times a week, every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at specific times, where I do strength training and one Pilates class.”
2. For every goal, write **why** you want to achieve it. Include every reason in detail. Focus on these reasons daily. Most people fail to achieve a goal because they lack strong motivation or don’t truly believe in themselves. When you consistently focus on how your life will change once you achieve your goal, you stay inspired and committed.
3. Create a plan with specific, measurable, realistic, and time-scheduled actions toward your goal. What needs to happen for you to succeed? Very often, what people lack is not resources like time or money, but creativity. For example, if you feel you don’t have time to exercise, you could leave your car at home and commit to walking a certain distance every day.
4. Write down the possible obstacles to your goal. What might stop you from achieving it? Then define realistic actions to prevent and overcome these challenges. Use flexibility and resourcefulness to stay on track.
And the non-written steps:
5. Find a mentor who has already achieved what you want and study the steps they followed. Having someone who inspires you allows you to think, “If my mentor did it, I can do it too.”
6. Strengthen your belief. On a scale from 1 to 10, where is your belief that you can achieve your goal? If it’s below 10, it needs to become a 10. What will help raise your belief to a full 10/10? Write down the actions that will reinforce your confidence.
7. Commit to executing every goal. Commitment means doing what you said you would do, regardless of mood or circumstances. Follow the actions and habits that move you closer to your goal, and trust that the satisfaction of achieving it will be truly powerful.
8. Visualize your goal daily. Imagine that you have already achieved it and feel the emotions as if it were real. One of the most effective ways to attract your goals is by using your imagination to create the life you want.
With a strong desire to succeed, the right motivation and belief, and by following these steps with discipline and commitment, you can turn your goals into reality.
